Programming Jobs

So I've come to the realization that if I want a job programming I'll need to learn the jargon. For example in Java what is a singleton? I also, need to learn more in depth MySQL syntax for queries and be able to write those queries without having to look up commands on the API or other documentation sites. Also, even though I do Object Oriented Programming in Flex, C++ and Java I need to learn how to create classes or Objects in PHP and be able to extend classes as well. Up until now I've only written classes from scratch to my own specifications and haven't really worried about extending or building on other classes.
